Abstract: Pseudorabies is one of the major diseases affecting pig farming in China. At present, the high infection rate of pseudorabies virus wild-type in the late fatting stage remained high in some pig farms, it severely restricted the improvement of production efficiency and economic benefits of pig farms. In current market, traditional vaccine strains provided insufficient cross-protection against certain wild-type virus infections. In this study, a large-scale finishing pig farm implemented a control trial using a combination of live and inactivated vaccines based on the HN1201 variant strain of pseudorabies virus, together with multiple biosecurity management measures. The results showed that the gE antibody seroconversion rate was successfully reduced from the original 100% to 66% in fattening pigs, and the time to seroconversion was delayed by more than 50 days. The experimental results indicated that precise vaccine selection, scientific immunization program and stringent biosecurity measures, were critical to prevent infection by wild-type PRV. This article further reviewed the literature to discuss core strategies for PRV prevention and control, provide scientific guidance for large-scale pig farms.
