Abstract: Multi-story livestock farming is a novel facility-based farming model that utilizes multi-story buildings-distinct from traditional flat-floor farming systems and is driven by high standards of biosafety and intensive production. This paper reviewed the technological evolution of multi-story pig farming in China, from the early "Flat-Layer Stacking" approach to the "High-Intensity Biosafety Fortress" model introduced by Yangxiang Group in 2017; it examined practical case study of implementing this "multi-story" approach across various livestock and poultry sectors—including pigs, laying hens, broilers, meat ducks, egg ducks, beef cattle, and meat sheep; it summarized the common advantages of multi-story farming in terms of land conservation, intensive and intelligent production, precise environmental control, and the industrial treatment of manure; and it analyzed the practical challenges associated with adopting this multi-story farming model. It is evident that against the backdrop of stringent land resource constraints, the advent of the intelligent farming era, increasingly rigorous environmental protection requirements, and the routine prevention and control of major animal diseases, multi-story farming is shifting from mere "trend-following replication" toward a more standardized, digitally and intelligently driven, and ecologically sustainable approach-demonstrating significant development potential as a form of modern facility-based animal husbandry.

Key words: multi-story livestock farming, stereoscopic farming, facility-based animal husbandry, biosafety, intensive farming, digital and intelligent farming
