Abstract: To systematically compare the dust transmission characteristics between flat and multi-story pig farm models and elucidate the mechanisms by which architectural structures influence dust dispersion, this study employed a fluorescent powder tracing simulation method. Field observations were conducted over seven days at four critical locations-including bathhouse entrances, material transfer windows, pig exit platforms, and dead pig handling areas in both flat and multi-story pig farms within the same facility. Data on fluorescence powder travel distance, diffusion range, and distribution patterns were recorded. Results demonstrated that flat pig farms exhibited extensive dust dissemination with the farthest transmission distance reaching 55 m at the exit platform, primarily driven by wind forces; whereas multi-story farms showed relatively limited transmission ranges (up to 10 m at exit platforms), but experienced significant cross-contamination between floors, with elevators and personnel movement being major transmission factors. In conclusion, structural differences between these two farm types lead to markedly distinct dust transmission behaviors, necessitating tailored prevention strategies based on their specific characteristics.
