Abstract: With the development of biosynthesis technology, the efficient "carbon fixation" and "nitrogen fixation" is achieved by microorganisms can not only alleviate the current shortage of feed resources in China, but also contribute to the realization of the "dual carbon" goals. The reliance on imported protein feed is a bottleneck of restricting the sustainable development of China's animal husbandry. In recent years, single-cell protein (SCP) produced by fermentation with methanol as the carbon source has become one of the hot spots in the development of new protein feed resources. By domesticating efficient strains and coupling wind and solar energy to produce green hydrogen, a "green hydrogen - methanol - SCP feed" cycle chain is constructed. It can directly reduce 0.63 tons of CO2 per ton of protein production, with a carbon conversion rate of 76%. This paper aimed to review the screening of biosynthetic strains of methanol protein, synthetic pathways, fermentation processes, and application prospects, with the expectation of provide references for the production of methanol protein and its application in the field of animal husbandry.
