Investigation on the Relationship Between Average Litter Birth and Parity of Sows and the Mortality of Piglets Before Weaning in a Large-scale Pig Farm in Jiangsu Province

Abstract: In addition to disease, management factors, birth weight, ambient temperature, and parity are also important factors affecting the mortality of piglets before weaning. An investigation on piglet deaths in a large-scale pig farm in Jiangsu Province in 2020 showed that 9.87% of the total deaths were caused by management factors, and 21.5% were caused by diseases. The survival rate of piglets before weaning decreased with the increase of parities. The mortality rate of piglets born at 3 parities was significantly different from that of piglets born at 6, 7 and 8 parities(P<0.05), but was not significantly different from that of piglets born at other parities (P>0.05).
